Angel Mountain Cabin
Wild turkeys visit. So do herons, ducks, and Canada geese. And deer, chipmunks, rabbits, possums, woodpeckers, and hummingbirds... for starters. So join 'em! Leave the real world insanity behind for a getaway to Angel Mountain Cabin, nestled in the woods with a view that merely hints of Ashe County magic. You'll quickly see why the critters keep coming back!
Walk to the New River State Park and its maintained trails or down the nearby country road to the river itself. Hike the on-site trails to the top of Angel Mountain or feed the fish in the two ponds on the premises (just ignore their claims that they haven't been fed lately).
Or do nothing.
And then take a nap.
The cozy cabin sports a covered front porch and large deck along the side and across the back. It's hard to decide which is more spectacular - the sunset or the stars; to be privy to either one is a divine gift.
The picnic table in the backyard is ready for table games, bird-watching, reading, writing, pondering, or conversation. Or a picnic! The mini great room includes a furnished kitchen, dining table, and full-size futon. A queen-size bed, bathroom, TV, and loft storage space are located in a separate bedroom. All linens and paper products (and a few treats!) are provided.Amenities include air conditioning, heating, two ceiling fans, satellite TV/DVD/VCR, phone (unlisted), CD player, charcoal grill, and an abundance of peace, quiet, and nature's simple treasures.

WINTER!
When we get some winter weather you can see (snow) and not feel (like 12 degrees), I'll post some pictures.
Until then, we are basking in mostly mild temps and not complaining a bit.~ 2-3-12 - Still no big snow to report. AND WE ARE STILL NOT COMPLAINING. ~
Since you took the time to visit, though, below are pictures of our two grandfurballs!
We babysat them for a few days over the holidays, endured creative sleeping arrangements,
hiked up the mountain once or twice daily to run off some energy (Mae's, not ours), and lived to tell about it!And so, believe it or not, did our own fine Sami.
Okay, she wasn't 'happy,' but is she ever???
Maggie, 14, loved to help Grandpa Randy in the kitchen.
(Update 2-1-12: Maggie had SO much more fun sampling Grandpa's goodies than dodging her rowdy li'l sis, Mae,
she pleaded with her folks to let her stay here and be a permanent assistant to Grandpa.
It wasn't easy for her mama and daddy, but they love her enough to leave her with us.
We're crazy about her and her antics, which remind us a lot of angel Kali!
And Sami has been as cordial as she knows how to be.)
Mae, on the brink of celebrating her first birthday, smiling for another picture.
Mae reminds us all a LOT of angel Emma. A LOT.
Grandpa/Chef Randy's tasters. Someone's gotta do it.
FALL (just so you can see some purty pictures)!
Angels...
We bid farewell to our big Emma on January 6, 2011, a mere five days after our beloved gal turned 12.
To celebrate her last day of 11, Emma enjoyed a final, labored stroll to the cabin and back.
It was against our will (hardly a news bulletin over the past 12 years, considering hers), but she knew her mama was at the cabin without her.
And that wouldn't do.

Happy, heavenly trails, girls...
October (2010) Angel...
As excited as we've been to see cooler weather (a mammoth understatement), we were not so excited that our fun-lovin' Kali earned her angel wings on October 16. It was a stunningly gorgeous day and her maternal grandma's birthday, and we feel confident that this 13-1/2 year old bundle of life began celebrating immediately.
But still....
Meanwhile, Sami and Emma (who became an angel herself just weeks after Kali) are holding the fort.
Or something.
The Resident Hairballs
(Kali, our goofy Golden retriever, earned her wings in October, 2010. Emma, our super-sized black lab+, earned hers in January, 2011.
We miss them like crazy but feel confident that their presence will continue to keep Angel Mountain one happy place!)
Kali, resident blonde, celebrates unearthing a ball, walking on grass, hearing a bird, seeing blue sky, stepping on a dandelion, sneaking pond chow....
Emma, resident 'supervisor,' is taking a break from, um, supervising.
Sami, resident tormenter, caught in a rare moment of not tormenting. That's not to say she isn't mulling it over....
